Only once did the artist friends Sigmar Polke and Gerhard Richter organize a shared exhibition. They showed their works together in the galerie h in Hanover in 1966.
Instead of a catalogue, Richter and Polke designed an artist book in which they assembled image and text material, such as staged photographs and texts written by them or found in popular magazines. Even years after the show, Richter remembers: “At the time, we did the text I was as close to Polke as with nobody before.”
The original layout of this publication was purchased by the Gerhard Richter Archiv of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. Alongside the invitation card, the exhibition poster, newspaper reviews and images that were taken for the artist book, but were not used, the publication makes it possible to reconstruct this unique exhibition by Gerhard Richter and Sigmar Polke.
